2011-03-14Verimatrix and MSTAR Partner to Bring Advanced Cardless Security Solution to New Markets
VCAS for DVB offers Digital TV Operators Secure, Cost Effective Set-top Box Options
Hsinchu, Taiwan and San Diego, Mar. 14, 2011 – Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services around the globe, announced that it has ported its hardened Verimatrix ViewRightR STB for DVB client security onto the MStar 785X system-on-chip (SoC) series. MStar now offers the 785X with advanced cardless security support that enables digital TV operators to deploy cost-effective, high-performance set-top boxes (STBs).
The integrated Verimatrix-MStar solution provides a next-generation approach for DVB conditional access (CA) that not only reduces the cost and maintenance of STBs, but also speeds time to market to reach a broad subscriber base in a digital TV deployment.
"We are focused on helping leading equipment manufacturers quickly develop products that will impact the market. MStar 785X advanced secure STB products are the best choice for quick time-to-market, cost-effective and cutting-edge technology for operators on the market today,” said Philippe Notton, DTV marketing director, MStar. "Partnering with Verimatrix to extend our advanced security features provides a very attractive solution for digital TV operators to cost-effectively deploy set-top boxes that do not rely on smart cards.”
"Video convergence is happening on many levels throughout the value chain. SoC vendors are providing more advanced embedded security features to help ‘level the playing field’ for all types of operators in different regions,” said Steve Oetegenn, chief sales and marketing officer, Verimatrix. "We are proud to bring the choice of VCAS cardless security to new digital TV markets with MStar.”
ViewRight STB for DVB is a robust package of portable embedded code that implements the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS?) for DVB security functions within each STB in a digital TV system. ViewRight STB code has been designed to integrate with native hardware support for cryptographic and secure storage functions present in the advanced subsystems available on SoC devices but present a standardized set of uniform revenue security interfaces to STB middleware.
An important capability of the VCAS for DVB solution is enabling operators to mix different STB client device types in the same network to suit the business profile of their subscribers. For example, cost effective cardless DVB broadcast clients can be operated and managed alongside smart card-based STBs (including use of DVB-CI (Common Interface) modules) and advanced hybrid devices targeted at higher ARPU accounts with IP connectivity.

MStar Semiconductor has licensed the multi-threaded multiprocessing MIPS32 1004K Coherent Processing System, or CPS, and the superscalar MIPS32 74K core
MIPS Technologies, Inc., a provider of processor, has announced that MStar Semiconductor has licensed the multi-threaded multiprocessing MIPS32 1004K Coherent Processing System, or CPS, and the superscalar MIPS32 74K core.
These cores provide the performance needed for next-generation connected DTV and technologies such as Java, JavaScript, Adobe(R) Flash(R) Player and AndroidTM.
In its Q3'10 Quarterly TV Design and Features Report, DisplaySearch, a worldwide leader in display market research, noted that MStar continues its position as market leader in flat panel TV IC unit shipments.
"MIPS' cores deliver high performance and power efficiency, supported by a robust ecosystem of tools and software. With our MIPS solutions portfolio, we have a wide range of options for our next generation products. We are working closely with MIPS Technologies to ensure seamless integration of software stacks to create innovative next-generation products," said WK China, vice president, MStar.
The MIPS32 74K core family provides advantages for high-performance SoC design, while reducing overall die area, cost, and power consumption.
The 1004K CPS is a multi-threaded multiprocessor IP core. Leveraging the multi-threading capability, the 1004K CPS achieves over 2.9 CoreMarkTM/MHz per core.
